LIFESTYLE

Components of a Healthy Lifestyle & Metabolism

What is your definition of lifestyle?  ____________________________________

Definition According to Webster’s Dictionary:

“Way of life by a person or group of persons”.

Australian physiologist Alfred Alder introduced the term “Lifestyle” with the meaning of "A Persons Basic character as established earlier in childhood". Lifestyle is the way in which person lives. Lifestyle is a composition of motivations, needs, and wants that are influence by factors such as:

  • Culture

  • Family

  • Reference group

  • Social class

What have we taught ourselves and what are we teaching our kids about a metabolically -healthy lifestyle?

Does your Lifestyle FEEL GOOD? _____________________________________

Here is WHY we created - Metafit Life 360- short for: Metabolic Fitness for Life or M360

M360 was inspired to me by the late Dr. Mark Potzler, see short television interview with Dr. Potzler

Picture this scenario - patient goes to healthcare provider and asks the Dr:

How can I improve my health and get off of these medications?

The doctor says: “Change your lifestyle, diet, and start exercising”, but what exactly does that mean?

People are lost! The very healthcare providers themselves are lost! It is truly a case of the blind leading the blind! What happens next?

Specifically: “What should I do the patient ask”?

The problem with this scenario, is the patient population, does not know what to do.  The healthcare providers do a great job of treating infectious disease and prescribing pharmaceuticals, but not at treating Chronic Conditions that lead to Chronic Disease. Chronic Conditions that represent the BULK of our annual USA Healthcare costs (over $2.9 trillion Dollars of $3.2 trillion total).

To complicate the scenario even farther, the patient may seek fitness with one of the many gym rat infestations scattered around every town that has some overweight, chronically inflamed- muscle head gulping down creatine and barking out “Push-Push” as if someone were having a baby.  This is just wrong at every level of intelligence!  We can do better, we can seek a more intelligent “Evidence based Process”, a Systematic Process that is scientifically based to TARGET and DOCUMENT specific improvements to a variety of -Clinical Biomarkers.

What is killing us?

Nearly 75% of all deaths in the United States are attributed to just 10 causes, with just 3 of these accounting for over 50% of all deaths. Over the last 5 years, the main causes of death in the U.S. have remained fairly consistent.

1. Heart disease - 23.4% of total deaths:

  • Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the U.S. and also the leading cause of death worldwide. More than half of the deaths that occur as a result of heart disease are in men.

2. Cancer - 22.5% of total deaths:

  • Cancer is a group of diseases characterized by the uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells. If the spread is not controlled, it can interfere with essential life-sustaining systems and result in death.  Leading causes of death from cancer for males:

  • Lung and bronchus

  • Prostate

  • Colon and rectum

Leading causes of death from cancer for females:

  • Lung and bronchus

  • Breast

  • Colon and rectum

Studies show that up to one-third of cancer cases occur in economically developed countries like the U.S. and are related to being:

  • Overweight

  • Obese

  • Inactive(sedentary)

  • With a routine of poor nutrition.

3. Chronic lower respiratory disease -5.6% of total deaths:

Chronic lower respiratory disease (CLRD) is a collection of lung diseases that cause airflow blockage and breathing-related issues, including primarily chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

  • These are all PREVENTABLE!

  • Why are we so Chronically Diseased?

According to the highly respected Cleveland Clinic most Chronic Illness is a product of poor lifestyle choices!

  1. Poor planning  of Lifestyle Components

  2. Lack of proper Physical Activity and Exercise

  3. Poor Diet/Nutrition and a Lack of Nutraceutical Education.

  4. Inadequate relief of Chronic Stress

Don’t believe us?

Here is what the Cleveland Clinic says is behind Chronic Disease:

POOR LIFESTYLE CHOICES”!

Broken Relationship between Doctor and Patient Population  “Even though doctors encourage healthful behaviors to help prevent or manage many chronic medical conditions, many patients are inadequately prepared to either start or maintain these appropriate, healthy changes.

Most patients understand the reasoning behind a healthy lifestyle even if they don’t understand the disease processes that can occur when they don’t maintain healthy habits.

Despite an understanding of what constitutes a healthy lifestyle, many patients lack the behavioral skills they need to apply everyday to sustain these good habits.” Cleveland Clinic

“Inadequately prepared to either start or maintain

        These appropriate, healthy changes”…
